House Fire in Station 50 District
11/01/10 - Shortly after 9 am Lake Shore was called to Chilton Road for a house fire. Upon arrival, smoke was coming from both eaves. Mutual aid from West Ridge, Lake City, West Lake, Erie International Airport, Kearsarge, Fairview and West County Paramedics. No one was injured. Click here for photos.
RIT Assist Franklin Township
10/27/10 - Lake Shore was dispatched for RIT to assist Franklin Township at a structure fire on Eureka Road. Engine 503 responded with four. Other mutual aid responding was Edinboro, Cranesville, McKean and Waterford moved an engine into Edinboro. Click here for photos.
Water Rescue Team Assists Edinboro
10/21/10 - Lake Shore, along with Lake City Fire Company, was dispatched for their water rescue teams to assist Station 38. The report said that two people were in the Lake in Edinboro. Edinboro rescuers responded and were able to get the people out of the water prior to either Lake Shore or Lake City arriving on scene. Lake Shore had four water rescue technicians enroute.
Engine Company Operation Class
10/17/10 - This weekend, members of Lake Shore, North East, Brookside, Fairview and West Ridge participated in an Engine Company Operations class. Members learned techniques to battle fires in structures, hose line operations, and use of hand tools.
Water Rescue Drill

Water Rescue on Lake Erie
06/26/10 - Today four fishermen went out on Lake Erie for the day. Soon after sailing about six miles off of Walnut Creek Marina, they realized that their vessel was taking on water. 509 and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the distress call. Another vessel that was in the area also heard the call for help and offered their assistance, pulling three of the four men out of the water. 509 arrived and pulled the last man out of the water. The other three men were transferred to 509 and transported back to Walnut Creek Marina where ambulances from Lake Shore and Millcreek Paramedics were waiting. One victim was transported to a local hospital for exposure to the cool waters. Mutual aid was received from Lake City Fire Company, Millcreek Township Dive Team, Millcreek Paramedic Service, West County Paramedic Association and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Lake Shore Becomes a Training Site
05/26/10 - As of March 29th Lake Shore Fire Department has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Health as an accredited continuing education sponsor. Congratulations!
Water Rescue Assist to Girard
05/22/10 - Tonight some people became victim to the rising waters of Elk Creek. Crews from Lake Shore, Fairview, Lake City, West Ridge, Kearsarge, Platea, Springfield, Edinboro and Crawford County assisted Girard in rescuing these individuals. Crews worked well into the dark hours and were on scene for almost four hours. All victims were removed from harms way and returned to drier lands.
Fire Assist at a Local Restaurant
05/20/10 - In the evening hours, Lake Shore was dispatched for one engine to assist West Ridge at a structure fire at Super Buffet on West 26th Street. Engine 502 responded with a crew of five. Upon arrival, 502s crew assisted other crews from West Ridge to ventilate the structure. A fire was found in the overhead hood system in the kitchen. The fire was quickly extinguished and 502 returned in service. Click here for photos.

05/05/10 - Tonight Lake Shore Fire Department went to West Ridge Fire Department Station 47 to train in their burn tower. Training was on victim extrication from the building and fire suppression techniques. Click here for photos.

Structure Fire in 50s District
04/09/10 - Shortly after 3:00 p.m. Lake Shore, West Lake, Fairview, Lake City Fire Departments and West County Paramedics were dispatched for a residential structure fire. WCPA was first on scene and reported smoke showing. The homeowner was not home. First-in crews entered through the front door and found that the floor was already sagging. Crews were on scene for about three hours battling the blaze. No one was injured. PA State Police Fire Marshall was called in to investigate the cause. Additional mutual aid from A. F. Two Engines Assist To Station 48
04/02/10 - Just after noon, Lake Shore was dispatched for an assist to West Lake at Lincoln Metal for a brush fire. The smoke from the blaze could be seen from the airport. Engine 502 laid about 800 feet of supply line and another 700 feet of hand line to reach the fire. Crews utilized foam to help extinguish the fire. Photos

03/29/10 - The Officers and Members of the Lake Shore Fire Department are proud to announce that at the Millcreek Township Supervisor's Meeting on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 the Supervisor's unanimously voted to recommission Lake Shore Fire Department in Millcreek Township. This means that we will once again be the responding fire department in northwest Millcreek, from Woodside Drive to Millfair Road and from the Railroad Tracks to Lake Erie. We will still be responding to our current territory in Fairview Township as well, which is from Millfair Road to Walnut Creek and again from the Railroad Tracks to Lake Erie. Trauma Life Support Class
03/21/10 - Members from Lake Shore along with members from several other area departments attended an International Trauma Life Support class held at Station 50. Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics learned the latest care, protocols and treatment of a trauma patient. Photos
R.I.T. Assist Station 72
02/09/10 - Shortly after 7 p.m. LSFD was dispatched to assist Franklin Township Fire Department on a structure fire on Route 98 just south of Crane Road. Engine 503 responded with five. Crews from Edinboro, Cranesville, Fairview, Platea, Lake City and Springfield also assisted. The structure was a total loss. 503 reported back in service 4 hours after dispatch. Vehicle Accident Assist Station 52
01/09/10 - Station 50 was called to assist Fairview Fire Department on a vehicle accident at W Lake Rd and Dutch Rd. FFD arrived and was extricating patients when they were dispatched for another accident in the 6600 block of W Ridge Rd. Fairview command on W Lake Rd rerouted LSFD to handle the W Ridge Rd crash. Upon arrival crews found a car into a telephone pole with minor damage and no injuries. Fire Police remained on the scene until cleared by PSP. Click here for photos.

Engine Assist Station 46 12/16/09 - Station 50 was called for one engine to assist Station 46 at a fire at Eriez Magnetics on Asbury Road. Crews arrived and found light smoke in the area. Chief 501 took command. Crews entered the facility and found that some hot debris from a plasma cutter had been ventilated through the exhaust system and had causes the filters to catch on fire. The fire was extinguished and the filters were removed. Crews on scene were West Ridge, Lake Shore, West Lake and MPS.
Chimney Fire Assist Fairview 12/15/09 - Station 50 was requested for one engine to assist Station 52 on a chimney fire. Upon arrival, crews found fire coming from the chimney. Crews removed the burning materials from the fireplace. While checking to see if any fire had extended into the house, the chimney collapsed. No one was injured.
House Fire Assist to Station 52 12/09/09 - Early in the morning Lake Shore was dispatched for one engine to assist Fairview on a house fire. When crews arrived, they found a two-story house with heavy fire. Crews from Fairview, Lake Shore, Girard, Lake City, Franklin Township, Platea and West Lake battled the blaze.
Structure Fire Assist Station 48 12/06/09 - Station 50 sent two engines to Presque Isle Blvd to assist Station 48 on an apartment complex fire. Chief 481 arrived on scene and reported heavy fire coming from the second floor. Other departments that assisted were West Ridge, Kearsarge, City of Erie and Fairview. Chimney Fire Assist to 48 11/09/09 - Tonight Station 50 was dispatched for one engine to assist Station 48 on a chimney fire on Brooks Bay Drive. Chief 481 arrived on scene to smoke showing from the front door. Engine 502 responded with five. Upon arrival, 502 was ordered to stand by at the hydrant for a lay into Engine 482. 48 crews checked the interior and the roof for any heat. The residence was self ventilated and all units returned in service.
Fairview Homecoming 10/16/09 - Lake Shore FD participated in the parade for Fairview School Districts Homecoming.
Rapid Intervention Team Training 09/30/09 - Members from Lake Shore, Fairview, Lake City, Perry Hiway and Kearsarge Fire Departments participated in a R.I.T. class. This class is designed for firefighters assisting other fire departments at structural fires. These teams stand-by on fire scenes and are put into action in the event that a firefighter that is inside the structure becomes trapped or injured and needs to be rescued. Burn Tower Drill 08/26/09 - Lake Shore FD joined up with Fairview FD and a Ladder Truck crew from Kearsarge Fire Department and headed out to the Franklin Township Training Grounds. Crews were rotated into the burning building and training on fire behavior, hose line advancement, nozzle patterns, search and rescue, rural water movement, incident command and truck company operations were reviewed. Click here for photos. Two Car Accident Assist to Station 48 08/12/09 - Early in the evening, Lake Shore was called to take a MVA call for West Lake at W Lake and Asbury Roads. Crews responded quickly and upon arrival found two vehicles with minor damage. Chief 500 assumed command. One person was transported to a local hospital. Millcreek Police was on scene to investigate. Remaining units were on scene for about 45 minutes. Click here for photos. Rope Rescue Drill with Station 52 08/05/09 - Tonight Lake Shore and Fairview Fire Departments conducted a rope rescue drill. Members were familiarized with different rope rigging and how to bring a patient up a steep incline using a stokes basket and basic ropes. Click here for pictures. Another Rescue on the Lake 08/02/09 - Shortly after noon LSFD was called to assist Lake City FC and the US Coast Guard with another vessel in distress off Elk Creek Access. The Water Rescue Team responded to Walnut Creek Access and conducted the pre-launch. 509 was underway in a matter of minutes. The USCG reported that a 14 foot boat was taking on water and had four people on board. The vessel was located about 3-4 miles NW of Walnut Creek Access. 509 arrived along with the USCG and PA Fish and Boat. 509, LCFC jet-skis and PA Fish and Boat escorted the distressed vessel to Walnut Creek Marina. All occupants we evaluated and did not require medical attention. Water Rescue on Lake Erie 08/01/09 - Early this afternoon Lake Shore was alerted to assist Lake City Fire Company and the US Coast Guard - Ashtabula and Erie stations with a vessel in distress about 1/4 mile off of Raccoon Park, Springfield Township. LSFD Water Rescue Team was placed inservice prior to launching 509. USCG reported that the distresed vessel had engine problems, but was able to make it to Summer City boat ramp in Springfield. Water Rescue in Belle Valley 06/30/09 - With the large amounts of rain received in the area overnight, the Belle Valley area was under water. Kuhl Hose, Lake City and Lake Shore Fire Departments were called on to assist rescue people from their flooded homes on E Gore Rd. Lake Shore personnel are trained in "Land-Based" as well as "Water-Based" rescues, therefore LSFD sent three Water Rescue Technicians to assist. Photos courtesy of Lake City Fire Company.
Dryer Fire on Patio Drive 06/17/09 - This evening an engine was requested to assist West Ridge on Patio Drive. Engine 502 responded and was first due into the scene. Crews entered the building to investigate and were met with smoke at the basement door. Crews entered the basement and determined the clothes dryer to be the source of the fire. The blaze was extinguished and the dryer was removed from the structure. Crew were on scene for about 45 minutes and then returned in service. Water Rescue On Lake Erie 06/16/09 - This afternoon, Lake Shore, along with Lake City Fire Company, was requested by the US Coast Guard to assist with a boat overturned with persons in the water east of Conneaut, Ohio. During the response to the Walnut Creek Marina, the USCG called back to report that good samaritans had picked up the stranded persons and took them to shore. Lake Shore and Lake City were placed in service. A Busy Night Assisting West Ridge Fire 06/14/09 - Lake Shore was requested to send one engine on a house explosion with fire assist to West Ridge Fire Department on Westline Street. A member from West Ridge radioed in, confirming a working fire. While enroute, Engine 502 received orders to tag the hydrant and lay a line into the fire. 700 feet of 4" was laid and then LSFD crews went to work in battling the blaze. LSFD crews were on scene for about 3 hours. While working at the fire, Station 50 was called again to assist Station 46 at a reported fire at Steris Corporation. Engine 503 responded promptly with a crew of 3. Chief 463 arrived at Steris and determined the call to be unfounded and believed it to be from the smoke from Westline Street. Click here for photos of the Westline Street fire. Electrical Fire on Cole Drive 06/12/09 - Station 50 was called for an engine to assist West Lake Fire Department on Cole Drive for a house fire. A tree service was cutting down a tree when a limb fell onto the electrical service to the house causing the house to become energized. Smoke was then seen from the outside while waiting for Penelec. Assist to Station 46 04/22/09 - Station 50 was called for one engine to assist West Ridge FD at Eriez Magnetics on a fire alarm. Dispatch later advised that they received calls from the facility reporting a fire in one of the warehouses. 502 was the first in and had smoke showing from the warehouse. Crews entered the structure and discovered a working fire in the north wall. Lake Shore was tapped again for an additional engine and fire police to the fire grounds. Crews from Lake Shore, West Ridge and West Lake worked for about an hour and a half opening the wall and roof to snuff out the spreading fire. Chief 460 had command. Click here for photos. Assist to Station 52 04/21/09 - Station 50 was dispatched for an Engine to assist Fairview FD at Erie Bronze and Aluminum on a machine fire. Upon arrival, 502 was the first in and had nothing visible. Employees directed the engine to the rear of the building to a garage door. There crews found a working fire in one of the machines. Crews from Lake Shore, Fairview and West Lake Fire Departments worked for about an hour to extinguish the blaze. Click here for photos. Easter at the Fire House 04/11/09 - The Easter Bunny took some time out of his busy Easter weekend to visit with the children and families of the neighborhood at the Lake Shore Fire Department. Pumps II Class 04/04/09 - Members of Lake Shore, Fairview, Lake City and Franklin Township Fire Departments went out to the Fairview Business Park today to practice and show what they have learned over the past few weeks in class. Click here for photos. Assist to Kearsarge FD 03/28/09 - Late Saturday night LSFD Engine 503 was called to assist Kearsarge FD at a blaze on Treetop Drive. Fire Police were later called to assist with crowd control at the firegrounds. Squad 507 was also called up to assist MPS answer calls in Millcreek Township while other ambulances were staging at the fire. Crews worked through the night to bring the fire under control. Lake Shore Recognized 03/25/09 - The Officers and Members of the Lake Shore Fire Department are proud to announce that we have been recognized by the PA Office of the State Fire Commissioner as a Participating Department. The purpose of this program is “to recognize those organizations that support, promote and encourage their emergency response personnel to voluntarily certify within the Commonwealth’s Certification Program administered by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner”. The other Participating Departments in Erie County are Brookside, Kuhl Hose, Perry Hi-Way and West Lake. Explosion Report in the District 03/25/09 - At 1016 today, Lake Shore, Fairview, West Lake, West Ridge, Lake City and West County Paramedics we dispatched to the 1900 block of Manchester Road for an explosion. 501 arrived on scene, assumed command and spoke with the caller who reported that he heard a loud explosion and then lost power to his residence. Engine 503 responded and crew members stated that they also heard the blast at the station. Command had FFD members check the Tow Road Penelec substation while 472 checked the Millfair Road substation. Penelec representative arrived on scene and advised that they received a call about a blown fuse. Penelec was able to locate the fuse in question and was determining the cause. There was no fires located and all fire personnel returned in service about 45 minutes after dispatch. Vehicle Fire Assist 03/20/09 - Station 50 (Lake Shore) was dispatched to assist Station 52 (Fairview) with a Car Fire at 8165 Platz Rd. at approximately 1145hrs. West County Communications reported the blaze with exposures. Erie County Dispatch toned out Station 50 and Engine 503 responded shortly after with a crew of three. Station 50 Assistant Chief 510 reported to the scene. Engine 532 (FFD) arrived first due and reported a working vehicle fire next to a large garage. FFD Chief 530 assumed command and ordered Engine 503 (LSFD) to assist with suppression. Engine 503 arrived at approximately 1200hrs with heavy fire and smoke coming from the engine compartment of the Jeep. Both FFD and LSFD crews did a fantastic job working together having the blaze under control in minutes. Very minor damage was done to the siding of the garage and no fire extension was found. Holiday Guest 03/17/09 - A leprechaun was spotted running through the firehouse and was finally caught by the camera sitting on the motorcycle and trying to get away.
Assist at a House Fire 03/15/09 - During the early evening hours, Lake Shore was dispatched to assist West Ridge at a house fire on Millfair Road. Engine 502 responded with a crew of six. Chief 462 arrived on scene and reported a light haze in the residence. It was determined that one of the electrical phase lines became detached from the weatherhead leading to the house. 502 crew went inside with the thermal imaging camera to determine if there was any fire in the walls. Finding none, crew returned in service.
Fire Police Officers Sworn In 03/11/09 - Tonight three members were sworn in as Lake Shore Fire Department Fire Police by Fairview Township Supervisor Pete Kraus. Those members were Frank Salhoff, Shawn Wroblewski and Phil Susann.
House Fire Assist to West Lake 01/06/09 - Just before 0900 this morning, Lake Shore sent Engine 502 to assist West Lake Fire Department at a house fire on W Lake Road. A member of the Millcreek Township Response Team was first on scene and reported a working fire. Crews attempted an interior attack on the fire, but due to heavy fire they were driven back. Crews then went into a defensive mode to suppress the blaze. Crews were on scene for about three hours. Structural Burn Class at Belle Valley 09/27/08 - Members from Lake Shore and several other area departments attended a structural burn class in Belle Valley this weekend. The class is meant to instruct firefighters in extinguishment, behavior of fire, hose line advancement, accountability checks, and extrication. Click here for photos. Vehicle Extrication Training 09/21/08 - Lake Shore and Fairview Fire Departments met tonight at Station 53 to practice vehicle extrication. Initially crews were only allowed to utilize hand tools for the first couple of scenarios. Later, crews were able to use the hydraulic tools. Some of the scenarios used were situations that are not common occurrences. Click here for photos. Brush Fire in an Apple Orchard 09/18/08 - Lake Shore was dispatched to the old apple orchard on Wilkins Road for a brush fire this afternoon. Upon arrival of Truck 504, a small brush fire was working. Crews from Truck 504 and Engine 502 quickly extinguished the fire utilizing a hand line and portable Indian tanks. Click here for photos. Erie International Airport Safety Drill 08/20/08 - Tonight Lake Shore participated in the required Erie International Airport Safety Drill. A simulated plane crash with victims and fire was the scenario on Runway 2/20. Click here for pictures. Horrible Weekend on the Railroad 08/19/08 - This weekend, LSFD had many calls, two of which had to deal with accidents on the CSX Railroad tracks. Both incidents involved pedestrians being struck by trains. The first, on 08/15/08, LSFD assisted Fairview FD with traffic control on Manchester Road. The second was LSFDs call at the Millfair Road crossing. Assisting departments included Fairview FD, West Ridge FD, West Lake FD, Millcreek Paramedics and Millcreek Police. R.I.T. Assist to Lake City Fire Department 08/10/08 - Tonight Lake Shore was dispatched for a Rapid Intervention Team to assist LCFD at a mobile home fire. Crews responded to the blaze on W. Lake Road and prepared to make entry if it became necessary. The fire was believed to have started in a shed that was next to the mobile home and spread into the home. Click here for photos. Change of Apparatus Numbering 08/01/08 - Today the Lake Shore Fire Department changed the numbering of their apparatus. This change is in preparation for the expected switch to a County Dispatch Center. Water Rescue II Class 06/29/08 - This weekend members of Lake Shore and Lake City Fire Company participated in Water Rescue II Class. The class centered on boat operations and rescues. The classroom training was held at LSFD. On Sunday, class was held in the Bay at Presque Isle. Members from both departments learned and used the boats and equipment of each others department. Click here for photos. Swim In the Bay 06/28/08 - Lake Shore Boat 59 was in the water today standing by in the Bay for a swim that was held. Participants swam in the Bay from Presque Isle to the Erie Yacht Club. B59 stood by in the event that any of the swimmers needed medical attention in the water. LSFD had a crew of 3 with a MPS Paramedic on board. Click here for photos and a video. Tanker 56 is Decommissioned 06/27/08 - Tanker 56 is decommissioned today. It has been sold to Bernice FD in Bernice, Oklahoma. Representatives came to the fire house and loaded the tanker onto a flatbed for transport. Click here for photos. Vehicle Extrication Training at the Base 06/25/08 - Tonight, along with Fairview FD, the Base held a vehicle extrication drill. Some new equipment was used and trained on as well as some of the things that we have had. This was a refresher training for some and a familiarization for others. Firefighters trained on hand tools, air bags and hydraulic tools. Click here for photos and videos. Smoke in the Building 06/24/08 - At 2340 hours, LSFD was dispatched to assist West Ridge FD at the Paul J. Martin Apartments for smoke in the building. Engine 55 responded with a crew of 5. Upon arrival, E55 was assigned to the 9th floor to investigate. A light haze was located throughout floors 6 - 9. Residents were advised to evacuate the building. It was determined to be caused by an electrical problem on Penelec's end. Crews were on scene for over two hours. Penelec was able to repair the problem and crews stood by on the floors of the building while the power was brought back online. Residents were allowed to return to their apartments just before 2 am. Departments responding: West Ridge, Lake Shore, West Lake, Fairview, Millcreek Paramedics, Millcreek Police and Millcreek EMA. Click here for photos. Boater in the Water 06/18/08 - Around 2:30 pm LSFD, along with the U.S. Coast Guard, Lake City Fire Company, West County Paramedics and Emergycare, were sent to the Walnut Creek Access for a person in the water. Reports came in that the person was in a kayak and that they were about a half mile from shore. Truck 54, Squad 52 and Engine 53 responded with Chief 500 having command. With the assistance of the PA Conservation vessel, the victim was able to brought to shore where he was looked at by LSFD and WCP EMS personnel. LCFC was put in service while they were en route to the Access. Click here for photos. Dog Rescue 06/16/08 - At near 2200 hours a resident on Foxglove Lane contacted LSFD and said that his dog was trapped in a 8" drainage pipe that went over the embankment to the lake shore and asked if there was anything that LSFD could do to help rescue the dog. Engine 53 and Truck 54 went to the scene and Chief 501 had command. The owner stated that the dog was missing for over 24 hours and that they located it about 10-12 feet over the embankment in the 8" pipe. Crews were digging on scene for about 2 hours before they were able to access the dog and remove it from the pipe. The dog appeared to be in good shape and the owner said that he would take it to the vet to get checked out. Fairview FD assisted with Rescue 539 and personnel. Click here for photos. The Calls of One Busy Day 05/30/08 - The day started at about noon with Lake Shore, Fairview, West Lake & Lake City for the FAST Team being dispatched to 5220 Bramblewood Lane in the Applewood Mobile Home Park for a structure fire. West Lake Chief 480 arrived with MPD and found light smoke coming from the exterior of the structure. The Erie Airport radioed that they had an engine crew available and were asked to respond. Engines 9 (WLFD), 55 (LSFD) and 822 (Erie Airport) responded to battle the blaze. E9 and E55 went to work on the exterior to find the fire area, while E822 was assigned to the interior. Captain 511 assumed command and held with the three engines on scene. The fire was found to be in an exterior wall and roof area with no extension into the interior. Crews extinguished the fire which was determined to be caused by a malfunction with the hot water tank causing high heat to transfer from the heat pile of the flue to the roof and wall areas. All units cleared the scene in about 45 minutes. Click here for photos. Next, LSFD was dispatched for a pedestrian struck on W. Lake Road. Chief 500 arrived on scene to find one injured bicycle rider. Traffic control was needed due to rush hour traffic while a section of W. Lake Road was shut down for responder safety. Millcreek Police Department and Millcreek Paramedic Service responded also. After a short investigation, it was determined that the pedestrian struck was the result of a MVA that had occured on W. Lake Road. The bike rider was hit after tow vehicles were involved in a rear end collison and one vehicle left the roadway striking the bike rider. The bike rider was transported to the local trauma center by MPS. W. Lake Rd was reopened and units cleared the scene approx. 30minutes after dispatch. Finally LSFD was dispatched to assist Fairview Fire Department at a reported structure fire at 7251 Klier Drive. A LSFD crew was on station Friday evening when Fairview Fire Dept. was dispatched to a reported Structure Fire at the John V. Schultz Furniture Warehouse. LSFD crew reported status to FFD Chief 530 and the Chief requested LSFD to respond. Crews responded Engine 55 with five. Engine 55 arrived on scene and was ordered to investigate the 1st floor while FFD was on the second. Crews completed the search finding nothing and assisted FFD on the second floor. Crews found a light ballast to be the reason for the report. All units were placed in service by command and returned. Click here for photos. Forcible Entry Training 05/28/08 - Tonight for drill, members of Lake Shore and West Mead 2 Fire Departments participated in Forcible Entry training. Training included gaining access to the different types of doors and breaching of walls and floors. Rick Robie, Chief of the Erie International Airport Fire Response Team, instructed the class. The house that was used for training is one of the buildings that the FAA obtained for the airport expansion project. LSFD sends their thanks to the FAA for allowing us to utilize this building. Dan Kremer for the video. Annual Fund Drive 05/19/08 - The annual fund drive for the Lake Shore Fire Department was mailed out to the residents and businesses of our district. Please click here to view the letter. Members Attend Fire School 05/04/08 - Three members went down to Blair County Fire School this weekend for a Structural Burn class. The classroom portion of class was held in Blair County. The class then traveled to Cambria County for maze and hose advancement training. On Sunday, the class went over to Center County to train in a live burn session in the new nine million dollar facility. This class was the first out-of-town class to burn in this facility. 04/29/08 - Today the Chief was very excited when he got the mail! In the stack of envelopes was one that held our Accreditation certificate for PA Water Rescue Level 1. Lake Shore is only the second Fire Department in Erie County to receive this honor, the other Department being Lake City Fire Company. The next step for LSFD is working towards Level 2 Accreditation, which is getting our members trained in Emergency Boat Operations and Rescue. Vehicle Rolls Over on W Lake Rd

LSFD Checks Out Hydrants in Fairview Township
04/23/08 - Tonight for drill firefighters went out into the Fairview Township portion of the District to test the hydrants. This is done every spring to inspect the hydrants and see if they need any service or if they incurred any damage over the winter. The caps, fittings, stems and drains are checked and lubricated, if needed. Engines 53 and 55, Truck 54 and Squad 52 were out in the district completing this task.
Basic Vehicle Rescue Class 04/19/08 - Members traveled out to Franklin Township VFD for a BVR class. Students learned how to stabilize vehicles involved in accidents and extrication of victims entrapped in those vehicles. Click here for photos. Boat 59 hits the water 04/18/08 - Some members pulled Boat 59 out of storage, took it down to Walnut Creek Access and put it in the water today. The Base puts a quick hold on a fast moving basement fire
The day stayed busy for the "Base". After units cleared the fire grounds, the Base received three EMS calls and the Chief was busy on the Fire Grounds with the State Police Fire Investigator.. Residential Fire Alarm 02/24/08 - LSFD was dispatched at 1228 for a residential fire alarm. Engine 55 responded and Captain 511 assumed command. Crews checked out the house and found a bad smoke detector. The homeowner was advised of the findings and the crews went back into service. Car into a Pole

Motor Vehicle Accident 02/10/08 - Around 3:00 p.m. Lake Shore and MP24 were dispatched for a Vehicle Accident that was reported as a car into a tree at W. Lake Road and Westwood Drive. No one was injured. Squad 52 responded to check the occupants and Truck 54 responded for traffic control. 5th District Stays Busy With Engine Runs 12/03/07 - Friday November 30th LSFD had a total of three engine runs within a ten hour period. The first was an automatic Fire Alarm at Fairview Manor Nursing home at 0607hrs in the morning. E53 responded to the alarm and it was determined to be a false alarm caused by a bad detector. Hours later at 1147hrs LSFD was dispatched to a Smoke in the Building call at 5602 Bonaventure Dr. E55 and E53 responded along with T2 WLFD and E532 FFD. E55 arrived to find no obvious conditions however upon crews entering the basement of the structure it was found to have light smoke conditions. After investigating crews found that an electrical malfunction in a space heater was the cause of smoke. Crews ventilated the structure and cleared a short time later. After time to wash the truck and a break for lunch LSFD and surrounding Depts. crews were back at it again. At 1516hrs LSFD was dispatched to another smoke in the building call. E55 responded on the call. T2 from WLFD and E532 FFD also responded again. E55 arrived on scene to find a two story wood frame residence with nothing showing. E55's crew investigated while T2 staged on Lake Shore Dr. and E532 took the hydrant. E55's crew found that the smoke was caused by an over heated cloths dryer. The structure was vented and all units cleared the scene. Fire Alarm Turns Into Structure Fire 11/10/07 - Lake Shore was alerted at 1:58 in the morning for two engines to assist Fairview Fire Dept to the 7200 block of West Ridge Rd to a dentist office for a structure fire. The original call for Fairview was a fire alarm. West County Medic 3 arrived on scene to find smoke showing and the sounds of fire from the attic space. Engine 55 responded with 5, and Engine 53 was shortly behind 55 with 6. Upon arriving on scene Chief 520 from Fairview assigned the crew from Eng. 55 to do a secondary search of the structure. Upon completing that, the crew joined up with the crew from Engine 53 and set up for possible vertical ventilation. The crew also had equipment for horizontal ventilation in place and was utilized. After ventilation was completed, LSFD crews was assigned to perform overhaul and salvage. The crews cleared the scene after about 3.5 hours after dispatch when all hot spots were extinguished and the building was secured. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Other departments that were on scene was Girard with two engines and West Lake for RIT.
